Software Issue?

Hello,

I am a working student at the German Aerospace Center at the moment and we are trying to wind a cylindrical tank with our 4X-23 winder from XWinder.

We inserted the measured data of our cylinder with spherical ends and then tried to build the part. However, the carriage is not moving the way that we have expected. The motors, which move the carriage linear and rotatory stutter in some places and sometimes it drives not the indicated path, e.g. instead of driving in at the ends of the cylinder it drives out. All in all we can move the carriage in the manually but the “home” mode and the “build” mode is not working.

There were also several other difficulties, which we faced since we bought it:

  • It is not possible to use metric measurements
  • Sometimes the software does not save the settings or the entered parameters
  • The 4.20 version is not really working (we are using the 4.16 version), the software cannot find all of the motors and it’s not possible to start the winding process, in the manual mode, the axis are inverted
  • In general, it seems that the functioning of the software machine depends strongly on which kind of computer is used. With some, the DH Linear movement is smoothly in the manual mode but not while winding.
  • At the beginning of the winding, there is a rotation of the mandrel, which makes that the first roving is laid down wrongly.
  • The carriage stops sometimes for no reason.
  • The machine is crashing sometimes against the mandrel for no reason.
  • The machine is crashing sometimes against the limit switches for no reason.
  • The machine doesn’t do the G-code that is shown

We already could wind some parts in the beginning, but however this is not possible anymore.

If there is anyone, who could help us and has an idea where the problem is coming from, we would be very grateful. At the moment we think, that it is a software issue, but we are also not sure how to fix it.

Thanks,

Kira
