Fibre slips off left end

Hello all,

after many trials, we still have problems with fibre slippage on left end but right end works perfectly.

For various winds the fibre aligns excentrical on the DH roller during the linear pass to left end. An additional tool before the roller to keep the fibre in the centre only showed minor improvements in the winding process. Furthermore, it seems that the elliptical moves are slightly different in terms of speeds and rotations of DH and the fibre tension drops significantly more on left end than right end.

With different improvements, left end looked different than right end but process could be run automatically until all passes of one group are complete. After the mandrel shift which follows the end of one group, fibre always slips of at left end because distance to polar opening gets too large.

Has anyone faced similar problems? Any help is welcome!

Cheers!

  • Hi were having the same issue but at both ends. Can I ask please what weight fillament are you using and do you have any issues of the fillament sliding off the sides of the delivery head roller?

    • Good morning Ross,

test runs were done with 2400tex dry glass fibres. Up to now, couple of modifications were implemented to more or less successfully wind thermoplastic prepreg UD-Tape. Of course, we also had issues with the filament sliding off the sides of the filament roller, and still cannot keep it 100% centred. But with one of the modifications concerning the arms of the delivery head, we added a second roll and some blocks to keep the tape best possible centred before reaching the delivery head roller.

Anyway, we still couldn't come over the issue that left end is wound slightly different than right end, but, with mentioned modifications and some things more, managed to run a successful process to get a rather good tube. End caps are cut anyway for our use.

Sorry to not help any further!

      Cheers!
